Chris co-founded HDC in 2006 with Todd Blankfort. Chris serves as Chairman of the Investment Committee and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the firm and its investment and business development activities. Prior to HDC, Chris founded boutique investment bank Instream Partners LLC in 2000, thereafter founding Instream Capital LLC in 2004 to make short-term, secured, special-situations loans similar to those made by HDC. Before founding Instream Partners LLC, Chris spent over 20 years in the investment banking industry where he pioneered several structured finance products used primarily by financial institutions to assist in managing high-yield debt portfolios. In 1990, Chris helped found the corporate finance department at Jefferies & Company, Inc. (subsequently acquired by Leucadia National Corporation), of which he acted as co-head until 2000. From 1986 until 1990, Chris was a managing director and co-head of financial institutions coverage in the investment banking department of Drexel Burnham Lambert in Beverly Hills. Chris began his career in the investment banking division of Dean Witter Reynolds in New York. Chris earned an MA in economics from York University and a BA in economics and English literature from the University of Colorado Boulder.×
Todd co-founded HDC with Chris Allick in 2006. Todd serves as a member of the Investment Committee and is responsible for managing the firm’s investment process, portfolio and operations. Prior to HDC, Todd was previously a Managing Member of Instream Capital LLC, with responsibility for originating, evaluating, and structuring investment opportunities, having joined Chris at Instream Partners LLC as a Vice President in 2002. Before joining Instream Partners LLC, Todd was an Associate Director with UBS Warburg LLC in its investment banking division, working primarily with software companies. Previously, he worked for Veronis Suhler Stevenson, executing primarily mergers and acquisitions advisory assignments in the consumer publishing field. Todd also spent two years in the real estate corporate finance group at Citigroup. Todd earned an MBA, with distinction, from the University of Michigan (Ross School of Business), and a BA, cum laude, in economics from the University of Pennsylvania.×
Paul is involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment activities with a concentration on financial and business operations due diligence. Prior to HDC, Paul held a senior financial operating role at Velti plc, a software company acquired by GSO Capital Partners (a division of The Blackstone Group). Prior to Velti, Paul spent approximately ten years at Jefferies & Company, Inc. in its investment banking division assisting technology, media and telecom clients with debt and equity issuances, mergers and acquisitions and restructurings valued at over $8.5 billion. He also assisted in integrating Jefferies' capital markets platform with Broadview International after its acquisition by Jefferies. Previously, Paul spent two years as an investment banking analyst at ING Barings. Paul earned a BS in management with a concentration in finance, magna cum laude, from Boston College and is a CFA charterholder.×
Mitch is responsible for business development, including deal origination and fundraising. Mitch is a member of the HDC Investment Committee. With 33 years of asset management experience, Mitch is widely credited for his role in defining direct investing as an investment strategy that has grown from infancy to a multi-billion dollar industry during his tenure. His innovative and strategic thinking has been instrumental in not only reimagining the manner in which small-cap companies in the United States and abroad secure critical growth capital, but also in creating and managing fund vehicles that have generated superior risk adjusted returns for institutional and high net worth investors globally. From its inception in 2003, Mitch built the Enable family of funds into one of the largest and most respected brands in alternative finance. Its flagship fund, Enable Growth Partners, with peak AUM of more than $450 million, invested directly in more than 500 private and publicly-traded companies. Prior to founding Enable, Mitch was a founding employee of The Shemano Group, a leading San Francisco-based investment bank that focused on the capital needs of growth companies. Prior to The Shemano Group, he worked at both Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers. Mitch received his BA from the University of California, Davis.×
David is involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment activities with a concentration on portfolio company management and monitoring.
Michael is involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment activities, as well as the firm’s marketing and fundraising initiatives.
David is responsible for legal due diligence and documentation and advising the firm on legal matters.
David is involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment activities with a concentration on portfolio company management and monitoring. David also manages the firm’s referral network and is involved in business development activities. Prior to HDC, David worked for Palatine Capital Partners where he analyzed potential debt and equity transactions. Additionally, David spent four years as an Associate with Equity Office Properties. David earned an MS in real estate from New York University and a BA in philosophy from the University of Washington.×
Michael is involved in all aspects of the firm’s investment activities. Michael is also involved in the firm’s marketing and fundraising initiatives. Prior to HDC, Michael was a member of the investment team at GoldPoint Partners with responsibility for originating, structuring and evaluating mezzanine investments, equity co-investments and limited partnership investments in alternative investment funds. While at GoldPoint, Michael also supported the fundraising efforts for GoldPoint’s mezzanine program. Prior to GoldPoint, Michael spent two years as an investment banking analyst in the mergers and acquisitions group at UBS. Michael earned an MS and BS in finance from the University of Florida.×
David has practiced law in California for over 30 years and has worked with senior members of the HDC team for ten years. David is responsible for legal due diligence and documentation and advising the firm on legal matters. Prior to HDC, David was a principal in the law firm of Lewitt, Hackman, Hoeflin, Shapiro & Marshall, where he specialized in corporate and securities law matters, including mergers, stock and asset sale transactions, public and private securities offerings and securities regulation compliance filings. David earned a BS in biology from UCLA and a JD, magna cum laude, from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.×
